In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly designated October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child. The day is set aside to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. This year’s theme is The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030. This will raise awareness of an adolescent girls’ right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, not only during these critical formative years, but also as they mature into women.

As we reflect on the work left to be done in fighting for gender equality, a few of our favorite quotes come to mind. Read and be inspired!

The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you -BB King

Don’t let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do, or cannot achieve. Do. Not. Allow. It. -Emma Watson

We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back -Malala Yousafzai

I want every little girl who is told she is bossy to be told she has leadership skills. -Sheryl Sandberg
